Prince William Plans to Join COP30 Climate Summit in South America

The Prince of Wales plans to participate in the United Nations climate conference in Brazil next month, according to the royal household.

Prince William and King Charles appeared together on Thursday evening at a reception preceding the climate summit, which is set to be held in the northern Brazilian city of Belém.

The King and Prince were present at the scientific institution event, marking an rare public appearance together at a pre-COP30 gathering co-hosted by the United Kingdom administration.

Climate Leadership Commitment

King Charles has been a long-time champion of protecting nature - and Prince William has assumed the responsibility, with his own environmental prize initiative, which will be held in Brazil ahead of the COP summit.

Royal sources have described Prince William's attendance at the forthcoming conference as taking on an crucial position in "environmental negotiations".

Previous Activities

The monarch and his heir, making a joint entrance in the official car, were greeted attendees such as environmentalists, researchers, climate change campaigners, foreign representatives and government officials.

This involvement included speaking in concert with French leader Macron of the French Republic and other global statesmen at the Marine Economy Conference in Monaco in recent months.

The UN meeting will dovetail with the the royal's sustainability recognition program, which will wrap up in Rio de Janeiro the previous day he participates in the COP summit on 6 November.

In recent days the William referred to the Earthshot finalists as "modern-day pioneers".

Monarch's Environmental Record

King Charles has been a prominent presence at earlier environmental conferences, delivering the inaugural speech in Dubai for the 28th Conference of Parties, including the reminder: "The Earth does not belong to us, we belong to the Earth".

"For decades I've committed a large proportion of my life trying to alert people to the survival risks facing us over climate change, environmental shifts and biodiversity loss," the monarch informed attendees.
