Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson revealed he barely escaped a life-threatening accident during Sunday's Mexico City Grand Prix when two safety personnel ran across the track right in his path

The dangerous situation took place on the third rotation when marshals were seen on the racing surface as Lawson was rejoining the race following an premature pit stop to swap his broken nose section

Driver's Immediate Reaction

Shortly afterward, the Formula 1 racer Lawson communicated to his team engineer saying: "Is this for real? Did you just see that? I nearly... ended their lives"

"I honestly couldn't believe what I was observing"

"I rejoined with a fresh hard compound tires, and then I got to Turn One and there were just two dudes dashing across the track"

"I nearly hit one of them, truthfully, it was incredibly risky"

Safety Concerns Raised

"Obviously there's been a communication breakdown at some point but I've never encountered that before, and I haven't really seen that in the past. It's pretty unacceptable"

"We cannot comprehend how on a ongoing race track marshals can be permitted to just dash across the track like that. I have no idea why, I'm confident we'll get some form of reasoning, but it really can't happen again"

Official Investigation Underway

F1's overseeing organization, the global motorsport federation, is thoroughly reviewing the circumstances

"Following a turn one incident, track officials was advised that wreckage remained on the track at the apex of that corner" declared the FIA

"During the third lap, safety personnel were informed and made ready to enter the track and remove the wreckage once all cars had passed"

"As soon as it became apparent that Lawson had entered the pits, the instructions to dispatch officials were rescinded and a double yellow flag was shown in that section"

"The examination is ongoing what transpired following that moment"
